ACA Dunguism

ACA: No Anwar arrest yet

PETALING JAYA (Oct 26, 2007): Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) Deputy Director-General Datuk Abu Kassim Mohamed has put to rest speculations that former Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has been arrested in connection with the Lingam Tape probe.

“For now, at least, he will not be arrested. Any such action will be decided by the Attorney-General (A-G).

“This is procedurally correct as we have to refer the probe to the A-G’s Chambers for further action as it is up to them to prosecute,” he said when contacted.

He asked the public and politicians to stop speculating on ACA’s next move.

“Speculations will further complicate matters,” he said in reference to short messaging services (SMS) being spread that Anwar will be arrested tonight or issued with a notice instructing him to disclose the full video clip.

“We will not arrest him. We are not so ‘dungu’ (stupid) as to act drastically. We don’t work that way!” said Abu Kassim.

(cut)…

In a statement yesterday, the ACA said the onus to deliver the clip to the ACA headquarters in Putrajaya lies with Anwar, and not on the ACA officers to get it from him in his office.

– quoted from an article published in The Sun on 26th October 2007 (link)

I was quite amused to read the Deputy Director-General’s statement that the ACA is not so stupid as to arrest Anwar. Why, just the day before the ACA Director-General stated :

“Tomorrow (today), our officers will go to his (Anwar) office to take the original copy. If he fails to hand it over, action will be taken against him,” he added.

Sir, it sounds like your Deputy just implied that you are stupid for taking the drastic action of threatening Anwar with jail time unless he produces something he does not have (the full video clip). Oh the hilarity!

What is this nonsense statement of trying to blame Anwar for not going down to ACA and handing over the video clip? After all ACA cancelled their meeting with him, well past the time they were supposed to have come!
