‘Parliament won’t be dissolved today’

BANGI: Parliament will not be dissolved today. The prime minister dismissed intense speculation that he would seek to dissolve parliament on the basis of his penchant for the number 13.

“No such thing,” Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi told reporters after the launch of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia’s Institut Islam Hadhari.

I stayed up all night working and was greeted by this encouraging headline in the morning paper. Breathing a sigh of relief I took a nap in the mid morning and awoke to read this headline online:

PM dissolves Parliament

Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi today announced the dissolution of the Parliament at a specially arranged press conference at his office in Putrajaya.

What? Why? What was the point of telling a lie like that? Its strange because it gave him no advantage whatsoever and people reading today’s and tomorrow’s paper will see the lie. There’s no other way to spin it. I’m guessing he forgot the date or was pressured into it…or maybe something else entirely, I’m too tired to speculate. Sigh..I just hope the elections are as far away as possible so there’s more time to campaign. This lie of his cost me 6 hours of sleep!
