New Parents Needed

Took ages for me to get around commenting on this, but now is as good a time as any. Khairy slammed the formation of ‘Barisan Alternatif’ by Opposition Parties each election, an alliance that lasted only for the election itself. He compared this with Barisan National, which is a marriage that lasts forever.

Ok, I’ll agree with his statement – yes, Barisan Alternatif is a marriage of convenience each election and the Opposition parties may never merge into one due to different ideologies. But I would much rather have a few Opposition parties in power, practising democracy, than the ‘marriage’ of Barisan National.

I say ‘marriage’ because the reality is that MCA, MIC, Gerakan and the rest are like the abused spouses of UMNO. Sure they get their piecemeal allowance but when they stand up for their rights they are kicked down (remember recent months where MIC leaders were chastised for speaking up about Indian rights, and PPP being ignored?). They can’t escape because they are completely dependant on UMNO. They have evolved a mentality of ‘we must be grateful for what little we can get’ in order to keep serving their Master.

What is the outcome of abusive marriages like this, but a broken home? BN’s children viz. the rakyat have been suffering for too long under this form of parenting. In Khairy’s own words, this is a ‘marriage that lasts forever’.

Get us a new set of parents on Saturday. Vote Wisely.
